Flames rally in third to down Ducks

12/24/2008 - Calgary, AB (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Mark Giordano and Mike Cammalleri scored go- ahead goals in the third period, as the Calgary Flames held on to edge the Anaheim Ducks, 4-3, at Pengrowth Saddledome.

Both Giordano and Cammalleri each added an assist, while David Moss scored for the Flames, who have won three of four. Brett Sutter, son of Calgary general manager Darryl Sutter, made his NHL debut and scored his first career goal.

"I think obviously, no matter who's scoring that goal, it's a big goal," Sutter said. "It's pretty special."

Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 30 shots in the win for the Flames.

Brendan Morrison tallied twice for Anaheim, which has lost two in a row. Ryan Getzlaf also scored for the Ducks, and Jean-Sebastien Giguere turned aside 28- of-32 shots in the loss.

With the score knotted at 2-2 entering the final 10 minutes of the game, Calgary got two consecutive goals to take control.

Jarome Iginla sent a pass from the left corner to the slot for Giordano, who sent the puck high over Giguere with 8:11 left. The Flames tacked on another score inside of six minutes to play.

A rebound was blocked by Giguere and went to the right side of the ice, and the Flames cycled the puck to Iginla, whose initial shot from the left side was stopped. But the disc trickled under Giguere into the empty crease for Cammalleri, who sent it in for a 4-2 lead with 5:44 to play.

Anaheim got back within a goal with 3:41 to play, when Morrison accepted a backhanded pass from Bobby Ryan and shot it over a diving Kiprusoff. But the Ducks couldn't net the equalizer, as the Flames held on for the win.

Moss gave Calgary a 1-0 lead just past the midway point of the second period, but with 2:32 left in the same period Morrison evened the game, when he located a rebound a slapped it in net while skating across the slot.

The teams then traded quick goals early in the third period, with Anaheim's coming first. Getzlaf had the puck near the slot, and waited for an opening before backhanding it through traffic at 3:45. But just 14 seconds later, Sutter was on the right side of the net to bang in the puck after Craig Conroy shot it from the left side.
