Oilers G Khabibulin guilty of DUI

08/27/2010 - Edmonton, AB (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Edmonton Oilers goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin has been found guilty on three charges related to driving under the influence and speeding in Scottsdale City Court on Friday.

According to the Edmonton Journal, Khabibulin was pulled over on February 8 at 12:35 a.m. near his home in Paradise Valley and consented to a blood test that revealed his blood alcohol level to be .164 -- more than twice the legal limit.

Khabibulin is expected to be sentenced on Tuesday, August 31.

"The Edmonton Oilers acknowledge and respect the decision handed down today by the Scottsdale City Court to goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin," Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini said in a released statement. "Both Nikolai and the Oilers organization recognize the severity of what has transpired. We plan on meeting with Nikolai, his agent and the National Hockey League in the near future."

Khabibulin, 37, who signed a four-year contract with the team prior to the 2009-10 season, did not play after November due to back problems. He finished the year 7-9-2 with a 3.03 goals against average.
